In one of the cases the Disproportionate Wealth Case Sudhagaran was one of the accused. A series of corruption cases were filed against her by the Karunanidhi DMK government, which succeeded her. Then Jayalalithaa lost the elections in 1996. The opulent marriage over which an estimated Rs One billion was spent has found a place in history, and has been mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records. In September 1995 she celebrated his marriage with Sathyalakshmi, the grand-daughter of the icon of the Tamil film industry, Sivaji Ganesan (who died a couple of days ago). She decided to adopt him as her foster son. Sudhagaran (who has since assumed the title of 'Chinna' or Junior MGR) was the apple of Jayalalithaa's eye. ![]() They formed a cosy family which frequented Jayalalithaa's house at Poes Garden in Chennai. This is the nucleus of what is now known as the Malgudi Mafia. Her bosom pal was (and still is) Sasikala who had several nephews such as Dinakaran, Sudhagaran and Bhaskaran and a husband, Natarajan.
